Road surface condition monitoring to help plan for difficult weather conditions
torque

Teconer will demonstrate its Road Condition Monitor RCM411, which reports on winter weather road
conditions.
Over two million kilometers of highways have already been scanned by Road Condition Monitor
RCM411. A record number of scans took place in a single month, where 250,000 km of roads were
scanned in January 2017. The system reports winter road surface condition, friction, surface
temperature and water layer thickness on a user-friendly Road Condition Map. Data can be viewed on
the map as color-coded lines or on a graph with numerical values along with the curves.
Several trials, where measurement equipment was installed on different types of vehicles, were
started in winter, 2016, with five sensors installed on long distance buses in a project with the Finnish
Transport Agency. In addition, the company comleted a project operated by the Finnish
Meteorological Institute, featuring instrumentation of mining trucks in the northern parts of Finland,
while measuring equipment installed on two trucks transporting salmon from the northern Norway to
Helsinki was initiated early 2017 and is financed by the Norwegian Public Roads Administration.
