INSTRUMENTATION FOR EVERYONE
University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR)

The University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR) has developed a low-cost, sustainable automatic weather station to help improve observation networks in the world’s least-developed, most data-sparse regions.

Instrumentation has been developed using innovative new technologies such as 3D printers, single-board computers, microsensors, and wireless communications. The weather stations are designed to be built by regional agencies such as national meteorological and hydrological services, educational institutions, and other non-governmental agencies. Visitors to UCAR’s stand are invited to watch a demonstration of the current sensor technology, which includes wind speed/direction, temperature, pressure, humidity, and precipitation instrumentation.
