METEOMATICS

Temperature, humidity and wind data in the lower atmosphere (3km) is sparse and irregular, which is why Meteomatics has focused on improving weather forecasting – to close the data gap and revolutionize the world of weather data.

Meteodrones provide a perfect solution to retrieving in situ measurements across the planetary boundary layer with unprecedented resolution (1m) and under almost any weather condition (cloud, rain, snow, etc). The data currently missing from global weather models is made available by flying Meteodrone missions from ground level up to 3,000m (9,800ft) every 20 minutes while continuously recording temperature, humidity, pressure, and wind data.

Economically and socially relevant weather events, such as thunderstorms, hail or fog can cause extensive damage or result in great commercial cost. An official national weather service recently acknowledged that Meteodrones improve numerical forecasting performance – often substantially.

In addition to improving weather models, Meteodrones are regularly used for air pollutant measurements. They represent an outstanding pollution monitoring system, enabling the identification of pollution sources and their related regional impact. Meteomatics continues to develop relentlessly and expects its Meteodrones to reach higher and higher altitudes.
