Reliable, self-diagnosing alert systems
Dualbase

On March 15, 2022, the worst rainstorm since monitoring began in 1932 occurred in Petropolis, Brazil. The Brazilian National Institute of Meteorology registered 258mm of rain in only three hours. This was not an isolated event. In 1966, 1979, 1988, 2001, 2011 and 2013, the same place experienced the same issue. The same tragedy befell Minas Gerais, Brazil in January 2022, displacing 57,000 people and claiming 25 lives. In August 2017, 635mm of rain was registered in only four days during Harvey Hurricane (North Atlantic).

Reliable alert and weather monitoring systems can save lives if they are accurate and working properly. Dualbase claims that its smart sensors are the answer to this concern as they work to ensure the health of the system 24/7.

Smart sensors are not only able to measure but can also do self-diagnostics, comparing data, self-testing, detecting anomalies, informing operators of installation errors and detecting failures. The PluviDB-SMART, a smart rain gauge utilizing Dualbase’s patented technology, can detect if it has a clogged funnel or drainage, excessive vibration or unleveled positioning, among other self-diagnoses, making it a reliable sensor for alert systems. Utilizing an SDI-12 communications protocol, it can be integrated into many systems currently on the market.
