Biral visibility sensors installed at 45 Airports across China

Biral, a UK-based manufacturer of meteorological instrumentation, has completed the installation of its visibility and present weather (VPF) sensors at 45 airports across China.

The VPF-730 and VPF-710 present weather sensors and the ALS-2 ambient light sensors are compact and robust, making them ideal for aviation applications where strong winds and other damaging conditions are often present.

One of the largest airports using the VPF-730 is the newly constructed Qingdao International Airport, which currently has two runways with a further two planned for the airport’s second phase. When the two phases are completed, Qingdao Airport will be able to serve 55 million passengers per year, making it one of the country’s largest airports alongside those in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou. The company has also received an order from Tangshan Airport, which will be the first Chinese airport to install a BTD-300 lightning warning system as part of the operation.

Biral began installing the VPF sensors in 2016 after it received certification by the Civil Aviation Administration of China, approving its sensors for deployment in all Chinese airports as part of their aviation weather monitoring systems and runway visual range systems. - July 2019
